The ATF denies targeting mentally disabled people to use in sting operations. It was totally random that they just happened across them in 6 different cities.

Makes me wonder if they also recruited these folks to design operation Fast & Furious.

Speaking of out-of-control federal agencies, somebody's about to get audited.

In case you were wondering, Bob Costas is still a jagoff.

“Let’s make a bet, you and me. Let’s say over the next five years — we’ll do a Google search, we’ll have an independent party monitor it — you keep track of how many good and constructive things are associated with athletes having a gun, and I’ll keep track of all the tragedies and criminality and folly. And let’s see who comes out ahead or behind as the case may be. These things are directly connected.”

So he's just saying athletes shouldn't have guns? Because as I recall his diatribes, they were directed at "America's gun culture", including people foolish enough to want a fighting chance against an armed assailant by carrying a concealed firearm. Let's bet on that.

18 Isn't that nonsense? The greatest fighting force in history and when threatened they're supposed to hide under their desks and let someone else handle it. I remember seeing a candlelight vigil after Nasan's rampage and getting angry. Here are our warriors and they're holding candles and vigils? Doesn't seem to mesh properly.

19 That asshole Tommy Sells is up for execution. He liked to rape and murder little girls. The thug lovers are demanding that TX tell them where they got the drugs for his execution. The state refuses because the thug lovers will harass these sellers out of business, make death threats against them and their children. So, the USSC has it. Sure hope they put an end to this nonsense quickly.

Oh well, might as start the day's insanity:

Bruce Jenner wants to 'be called Bridgitte' and is seeking advice from a 'sex change coach'

Star Magazine said on Wednesday that the 64-year-old has reached out to his longtime friend transgender rights advocate Renee Richards.

Reports first surfaced that the star was transgender, after he had surgery in February to shave down his Adam's Apple. While the operation - known as chondrolaryngoplasty - can be the first step in gender reassignment surgery, Bruce told TMZ he underwent the procedure because 'I just didn't like my trachea'.

26 » On Wednesday April 2, NBC’s “Today” which usually airs clips from their late night comedy shows or from “Saturday Night Live” did not air footage of Fallon’s ObamaCare criticism. Too much important news that morning; just didn't have time. Nothing to do with the content. Nothing.

It's kinda weird if you think about it. Had they just recruited them and used them as "bait" as it were for the real criminals, we'd probably all be saying "That's horrible!" But it'd be soon forgotten. But the fact that they recruited them, used them as bait, and then arrested them as well. I thought the ATF couldn't get any colder. I was wrong.

39 It still pisses me off that they refer to Manning as a she and a woman. He has not legally changed his name or sex. This bullshit of catering to every whim of some groups is ridiculous. And with that murderer who got a judge to order the prison to pay for his sex operation, I'm sure Manning will demand the same. Not only do you have to give them an operation, you have to pay for security to have it done. It's not like it can be done in the prison infirmity.

76 Condolences to the Ft. Hood Army Family Ft. Hood's Ivan the Terrible with wife and young daughter recently moved into an apt. (recently arrived in Killeen?) and were described as really sweet by those who met them. Although the media and perhaps his superiors project/infer that he was, Ivan wasn't diagnosed with PTSD. He was diagnosed with depression and was prescribed antidepressants. Whatever the fine line between, not for me to say. The military medical treatment for his diagnosed depression was the drugs used to keep personnel "ready" for service, to desensitize and blanket over troubles -- the same drugs with murderous side effects prescribed to most Americans suffering depression who become MORE suicidal and even become mass murderers (school shooters). Antidepressants have extremely negative side effects, obviously not to be dismissed out of hand for the inconvenience of onus when the worst plays out. Whether or not Ivan was a nice guy, he obviously didn't have his head together. And the medical treatment he was given obviously made things worse. Go figure. Where's yesterday's "trigger" -- while he was at his Army medical center? Three years ago, Ivan served in Iraq, 2011. Ivan was in the 13th Sustainment Brigade, according to his Ft. Hood General's press brief. The only mention of that brigade from the Fort Hood Press Center (early this morning) regards a peace keeping Sinai assignment involving his Puerto Rico National Guard who recently returned from the Egypt/Israel border. Whether Ivan was part of the Sinai peace keeping, no mention in press reports. What Obama's perverted administration will use this incident to achieve, remember this CinC/Prez early policy in national security, targeting Military Veterans as Enemies of the State.

91 Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at April 03, 2014 08:41 AM (QFxY5) I found NCJ's post and it seems fairly well thought out and logical. I just find it hard to believe that we can't find a way to balance these things. Having said that prior to Fort Hood 1 (sad that I have to refer to it as "1") it probably wasn't that big of a concern. Attacks on military bases were probably fairly unheard of (obviously Ayers planned on, but based on the outcome you can say that it'd take a idiot to plan something like that.) But apparently times are changing, and while suck attacks are still rare, they are no longer vanishingly rare.

92 Morning, all!

I read that ATF story in the Washington Examiner yesterday   (http://tinyurl.com/o4wovva)    and it made me so furious I couldn't even think.     The Examiner article also included this little tidbit that turned my fury incandescent:

Jones told Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, R-Mich., that "hindsight's 20-20," but said that ATF agents hadn't apologized to any of the mentally disabled people they recruited and then arrested in undercover operations because the individuals are in prison, so "the opportunity for interaction is limited."

*SEETHE*

They finished off the article with this delightful jab that is   totally a jab, and a well-deserved jab, too:

He promised that agents would not knowingly target disabled people in the future.

114 Although the media and perhaps his superiors project/infer that he was, Ivan wasn't diagnosed with PTSD.

118 Security Breaches of Personal Information at Federal Agencies More than Doubles Since 2009

Weekly Standard:  http://tinyurl.com/qasx8so

Millions of individuals who recently entrusted personal, medical, and financial information to the federal government while enrolling in Obamacare via Healthcare.gov may find a recent trend reported by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) rather unsettling.  The number of security breaches involving Personally Identifiable Information (PII) at federal agencies more than doubled in recent years, increasing from 10,481 in 2009 to 25,566 in 2013.  Perhaps even more disturbing, the GOA found that "none of the seven agencies [in a related study] consistently documented lessons learned from PII breaches."

...

A data breach may consist of something as simple as mailing documents containing PII to the wrong recipient, but also includes incidents involving massive loss of sensitive data...

But when it happens to the gubmint it's   okay, and they don't have to tell you.

128 Possibly we could use our large standing army to patrol and secure our bases. Maybe if each individual had or could carry a weapon on base, then we'd have thousands of people covering the whole base. More importantly, there'd be armed guards wherever there are people/targets! I think it's a plan. Placing a large guard force to guard the guard force of the nation seems redundant. Plus, what if one of the guards goes crazy/is a jihadi and kills the other guards. Then we'll need a meta-guard force to guard the guard force guarding the nation.

160 I actually came home from work one day and asked my husband how his day went. I found out he'd talked to the FBI. They'd been watching us for a week, thinking he might be a guy wanted in Chicago for a bombing. He didn't really fit the description but he did smoke a pipe and have a beard. That seemed to be enough. I kinda stopped asking about his day, after that.

Costas' comments were revealing.  His thinking is entirely derivitive and  dependent on what he reads in the media,  probably just NBC.  If he doesn't see it on a Google search it never happened.

It points to the necessity of belaboring the obvious with idiots  like Costas, and  endlessly  publicizing the stories of citizens who've successfully defended themselves.   It also points to how, with low information bozos like Bob Costas, until you can get some positive pop culture buzz you can't really get their attention.

The analogy wears a bit thin now. Which is why I reached into my bag of "other incidences" and pulled out the Hopkins hexamethonium case. In that one a woman (Ellen Roche) died after breathing in hexamethonium for an experiment to study asthma attacks. The docs did a shitty lit search and never found that hexamethonium is more dangerous than expected. Considering the EPA knew this dangerous it's a notch above that but Hopkins got shut down for a bit and audited out the ass, the EPA gets...nothing.

My guess is Cincinnati is possible, because Rob Portman is so popular with the establushment GOP and because Rand Paul has a decent shot at becoming the nominee,  Dallas, because  the GOP has to be hoping to  keep Texas solidly red,   and Denver  if   Cory  Gardner  does  well,  in hopes of building the state into a red state once again.

188 People can do terrible things while in a booze and anti-depressant induced "black-out" state. Posted by: Nighthawk at April 03, 2014 08:54 AM (OtQXp) Indeed. The alcohol itself makes people idjits. (Mel Gibson -- where's Stephen Colbert's "I share your rage" when a guy sobers up?) But given the timing in broad daylight, how frequently do soldiers ON BASE get themselves plastered drunk by the afternoon? Point remains, the anti-depressants do not RESOLVE any issues, but promote the festering under the surface of problems. When a person is well enough adjusted to deal with life so long as the person's sensitivity is dulled, the drug is a "success". But really, given the ultra stress of combat and the supreme disillusionment a soldier can experience when "truth" bares its ugly face, the anti-depressants are NOT the "depressed" soldier's friend. But try telling that to the Military invested in using that soldier for everything they've a need until he expires. Someone here wrote earlier this morning ONT that it's easier to replace 1000 men than a ship. Expendable.

I guess Costas would have a special rule for pro athletes, so they would not be permitted to have weapons, because they have so many problems.

Unless he is trying to say that professional athletes are a legitimate cross-section of society, and the experience of pro athletes indicates that nobody should be permitted to have weapons.

Perhaps the easiest way to solve this problem is to pass a law that would make it illegal for Bob Costas to have a microphone...

Everyone knows that the asshole who wants to blow up the church, go buy 10 kilos of drugs, or sell a bunch of machineguns to terrorists is a government agent.

219 What would Bob Costas know about athletes and guns? He only covers the Ghey Olympics, with the ice and the dancing, and the Punk Olympics, with the dogfights and the wife-beating. Not that you could tell by his network, but there are more athletes, in more events, shooting at the Olympics than any other sport. They cover biathlon only. There are scores of others. There is also a World Championship every year (no coverage) and the World Cup every two years (no coverage), and National Matches every year in pistol, smallbore, high-power, shotgun and muzzle-loader (no coverage). Plus USAS, CMP, NRA air rifle and airgun, NCAA, and 4-H. Bob Costas does not know or care that these athletes exist.

And the modern Olympics? Founded by a shooter.

So he has already lost his bet. It's Google you have to go to if you want the "good news" of shooting and athletics -- because Bob Costas won't cover it.
